Río Las Vueltas


We leave the lodge and border the Las Vueltas River, enjoying different perspectives of the valley and wide views of the Andes Mountains We stop along the way to get different views of the Los Andes Mountain Range. Before returning to the lodge, we will make a stop in El Chaltén town to walk through its streets.



This exploration is a trip in time, including a guided visit to the house of pioneer Andreas Madsen, a Danish man who arrived in 1901 to work with Perito Pascasio Moreno and built the first houses in El Chaltén. You will learn their history, the challenges faced by Madsen and his family, and everyday life in an estancia over a century ago.

We take the van from the lodge to the southern tip of Lago del Desierto. From there, we will navigate for about 30 min to the Vespigniani Nature Reserve, where we can walk along a low difficulty path through the forest of the least known areas of El Chaltén. On the way back, we see the valley surrounded by woody mountains and, in the background, Mount Fitz Roy.

While we drive to the Perito Moreno Glacier, we will learn more about its history, the Patagonian steppe, the area’s nature, the dynamics of glaciers, and the features that make this one so special. Why is it balanced? How does it compare with other glaciers? These are some of the questions that will be answered as we approach the impressive Perito Moreno Glacier.

The impressive Perito Moreno Glacier comes down to Argentina from the Southern Ice Fields. We begin our trip at El Calafate, from where we approach the front of this magnificent and sculptured ice mass that will constantly remind us that it is always moving. Travelers will have the option to take the different walkways to get a better view of the glacier. We return to El Calafate by van and then take off to explora El Chaltén.
