Climate

Located in the heart of Chile’s Carretera Austral road, the climate of Chacabuco Valley, within Patagonia National Park, is defined by its striking seasonal contrasts and ever-present winds. Known for its dynamic weather changes, it’s not uncommon to experience sunshine, rain, and wind in a single day.

During the spring and summer months, from October to March, temperatures range from 50°F to 68°F (10°C to 20°C), with long daylight hours and plenty of time to explore. The fall months, beginning at the end of March, are a special time in the valley as the forests and grasslands burst into vibrant fall colors of red, yellow, and gold. This season, with cooler temperatures and crisp air, offers some of the most breathtaking scenery along the Carretera Austral road.

In winter, the famous Patagonian winds settle and the day becomes shorter, with temperatures ranging from -5°C to 5°C (23°F to 41°F). The varied climate throughout the year contributes to the region’s diverse ecosystems, creating an ever-changing backdrop for the park’s explorations.
