Expedition Itinerary
This expedition constantly inhabits the tension between the rawness of the Arctic winter and the luxury of the essential.
A deep, accesible and transformative experience for curious travelers, not just for experts.
The first night in Iceland is always one of orientation. Hotel Borg in the historic heart — 1930s Art Déco architecture that signals this is no ordinary trip. The group aperitif is the opening ritual: sharing expectations, aligning on the expedition mindset. What strikes most in Reykjavik in winter is the darkness — barely 5 hours of daylight — and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights from the city itself.

An introduction to Iceland’s living geology and history. The earth here is visibly fractured — cracked open along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, still pulling apart. Hot steam rises from fissures in the ground, a reminder that magma sits just below the surface. Towering waterfalls carve through ancient lava fields.

Learn about the full story of Iceland’s volcanic activity during the morning, and then approach Eyjafjallajökull by snowmobile —the same volcano that paralyzed European air traffic in 2010—now silent beneath its glacier. If conditions allow, snowshoes take you closer to the summit.

The day opens at Dyrhólaey — a volcanic promontory with Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull rising behind. Then Reynisfjara: black sand, rock spires and Atlantic waves at full force. The day ends at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where icebergs calve and drift slowly toward the sea.

As you walk across Europe’s largest glacier with crampons and ice axe, the crevasses and ice formations are a reminder that Earth is alive, still moving, still forming. The day ends at the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs and sauna, to unwind with the glacier on the horizon.

Skógafoss in winter is a different creature — ice clinging to the rock face, rainbows forming when the sun barely clears the horizon. The long drive south is anything but monotonous and Sky Lagoon closes the expedition the way it should — submerged in 38°C geothermal water, while the air bites at -5°C.
