About explora El Chaltén

To deeply explore both sides of Patagonia, we created a tailor-made journey called Travesía.

explora Travesías are journeys during which we use a van to drive between countries, staying along the way in our camps and finishing or starting in one of our hotels. The drive allows us to access hiking routes along the way in some of the world’s most isolated landscapes.

Patagonia isn’t a country or a place; it’s a territory shared by Chile and Argentina. Travesía El Chaltén focuses on both the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, and the Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina.

Depending on your travel route, this Travesía can be taken either from Argentina or Chile, following the same itinerary.

DAY TO DAY

Why El Chaltén?

Travesía explora El Chaltén explores both Chilean and Argentine Patagonia, through carefully thought hikes in the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, and the Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina.

In a world in which it is harder and harder to leave crowds behind, we have created a tailor-made journey across both sides of Patagonia, especially design to explore the region.

Tailor-made route

El Chaltén route is the best way of grasping just how vast and diverse this region is, and how sometimes, country borders mean nothing at all.

Patagonia's wonders

Travesía El Chaltén allows travelers to discover both sides of Patagonia, a land of contrasts shaped by mountains, weather and ice. The journey allows us to witness the similarities and differences between both sides, gaining further understanding into the gauchos' way of life.

Beyond borders

One of the many highlights of El Chaltén journey are the glaciers on either side of the border: in Torres del Paine National Park and the Mount Fitz Roy.

Glaciers

We will cross the border in Cerro Castillo, entering Chile or Argentina depending on the route.

Border crossing

We use hotels on each side of the border as our base from which to hike, so little time is spent driving. Hikes vary in difficulty, but can have duration of up to 8 hours.

Explorations

Travesía El Chaltén offers the traveler the chance to explore while hiking or horseback riding in the Chilean side and hiking in the Argentinean side.

By foot or horseback

All explora guides have been trained in the explora Guide School, and are knowledgeable in geography, wildlife, geology, history and first aids. There are not better travel companions for a journey of this nature to El Chaltén
