Machu Picchu+ Inti Punku

a. Machu Picchu with Inti Punku hike

Difficulty level: Moderate.

Performed on days: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

On this full-day exploration, we explore the famous historical sanctuary of Machu Picchu, one of the most impressive expressions of the architecture of the Inca civilization and one of the wonders of the world. The hike to the Sun Gate or Inti Punku -the portal through which all travelers who walk the Inca Trail enter- is carried out on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. From it, it’s possible to admire the sanctuary at panoramic-view height.

The itinerary begins early in the morning towards the Ollantaytambo rail station, located 45 minutes away from explora, where we take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes. From there, we take a bus to Machu Picchu. The entrance to the Sanctuary is scheduled at about midday. From there, we begin our hike to Inti Punku or Sun Gate, old control post to enter the citadel and the beginning of the Inca Trail from Machu Picchu. This hike is a 2 km (1.2 miles) climb at a leisurely pace and with a moderate difficulty level. From the Sun Gate, there’s a unique view of Machu Picchu, and that’s why we recommend it to all our travelers. After the hike, we have approximately three hours to tour the most remarkable milestones of Machu Picchu. We leave the precincts to the station to take the train back. When then return to the hotel and have dinner.

Lunch will be a snack that you may eat at during the day.
