Cachi boasts plenty of sunshine, but the rain is the star of the summer. In Summertime (Dec-Mar) daily temperatures average 25ºC, with maximums at 35ºC and minimums at 5ºC. In winter nights (Jun-Sep) temperature may drop to -5ºC, or lower in some areas.
Whether the starting point is Chile or Argentina, the journey is begun at 2,500 m.a.s.l.. The exploring we shall do during the first 3 days, both in San Pedro de Atacama and Cachi, may take you above 4,000 m.a.s.l., which is optimal for the necessary habituation we shall need to continue the journey.
During the journey, the highest spot we shall visit is the Abra del Acay, located at 5,061 m.a.s.l.
The journey is done in special vehicles, well fitted and with satellite communications, in groups of up to 6 people accompanied by an expert guide, a cook and supporting staff.
Our guides have been carefully selected and trained at our School for Guides. They have in-depth knowledge of the areas we will explore and they have all been certified through Wilderness First Responder (WFR), thus guaranteeing the necessary expertise and skills to aid individuals in remote places. We have a complete first aid kit with us in all our journeys.
During the journeys, all meals are of excellent quality, taking full advantage of the resources available in each área, and appropriate for the journey ahead. Given the remote places and extreme circumstances in which we will be exploring, (altitude, temperature, etc.) we recommend staying away from excess eating and drinking.
Health standards compatible with a journey through areas in which you will be faced with altitude and significant temperature variations. An adventurous spirit, good temper and flexibility in the face of unexpected events.
