Equipment: Comfortable shoes, boots for trekking, thermal underwear, parkas, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, 20-40 liter backpack, passport and Argentine visa if necessary.

Requirements: Health compatible with the demands of the trip. Andes crossings at up to 5,000 meters (16,606 ft.) in altitude. Excursions at altitudes of 2,500 to 4,000 meters (8,202 to 13,123 ft.), with lodging at 2,500 and 3,500 meters (8,202 and 11,400 ft.) high.

Departure: From the Calama airport (Chile) or from the Salta airport (Argentina).

Trip season: Year-round, with some climatic limitations from January to March due to the altiplanic winter.

If beginning the trip in Argentina, the arrival at the Salta airport must be scheduled before noon.



			a) Departing from Chile • Day 1: Arrival at explora EN ATACAMA. • Days 2-3: Full days of exploration in Atacama. • Day 4: Departure to Argentina. High-altitude walk to lakes, salt flats and volcanoes. Lodging at the Tambo La Quesera campsite at 3,500 meters in Poma, Argentina, after passing Abra de Acay (4,895 meters). • Day 5: Explorations and high-altitude walks in the Poma area. Visit to Cachi. Lodging in the Finca Rancagua house. • Day 6-7: Explorations in the Calchaquíes Valley or walk toward el Nevado de Cachi. Lodging in the Finca Rancagua house. • Day 8: Departure to Salta. Explorations in the Cuesta del Obispo. Arrive at Salta for the flight to Buenos Aires, or spend an extra night in Salta to visit the city. If guests decide to extend in Salta, explora will leave the guest in a hotel.		b) Departure from Argentina Meeting time for starting the travesía is at noon. If you would like to visit the city of Salta, we encourage you to arrive the day before since our journey does not include a visit to this city. • Day 1: Reception at the airport. Optional visit to Salta. Departure to Cachi - Cuesta del Obispo - Walk (schedule permitting). Lodging at the Finca Rancagua house. • Day 2-3: Explorations in the Calchaquíes Valley or walk toward el Nevado de Cachi. Visit Cachi. Lodging in the Finca Rancagua house. • Day 4: Explorations in the Poma sector. Lodging at the Tambo La Quesera campsite, which is at 3,500 meters. • Day 5: Depart to Chile passing through the Abra de Acay at 4,895 meters. Guests travel through high altitude regions, visiting lakes, salt flats and volcanoes. High-altitude walk. Arrival at explora EN ATACAMA. • Day 6-7: Full day of exploration in the Atacama Desert. • Day 8: Departure to Calama and Santiago.
