Our environmental policy arose from our desire to minimize the impact of our operations on the areas where we are based; from our tours to Patagonia to our adventure travel in Rapa Nui. From this starting point, we have made a commitment to responsible environmental management to ensure that the use we make of natural resources is sustainable and that we effectively manage the waste we generate.
We try to minimize our use of energy generated by fossil fuels, instead favoring renewable sources of energy.
We use solar energy to heat the swimming pools, jacuzzis and showers at our lodges on Rapa Nui and at San Pedro de Atacama.
On Rapa Nui we have a co-generation system, through which we use the residual heat from generators to warm up the potable water. Thus we make more efficient use of the system and reduce our use of fossil fuels.
The architectural design of our lodges optimizes natural airflows, thus avoiding the need for air conditioning and helping to save energy.
When it comes to lighting, we are replacing traditional lightbulbs with energy saving bulbs. On the exterior of the lodges we have photocells which optimize usage.
