Horseback riding in the extreme desert
5 days / 4 nights

It is the driest, highest desert in the world. Yet in the Atacama Desert, life flourishes in the oases formed by the streams that flow down from the vast imposing heights of the Andes Mountains.

The Atacama Desert is full of surprises: mountains, volcanos, salt flats, geysers, wetlands, hot springs and an array of animal and plant life. It also has a culture that dates back 10,000 years, vestiges of which can still be seen today in the daily lives of the local Atacameños.

At explora Atacama, our horseback riding program lets you discover one of the most extreme landscapes on this planet in total comfort and safety.

Topics covered

Our horseback rides are designed for experienced riders who feel confident handling a horse in open spaces and a variety of situations. You should be proficient in walking, trotting and galloping on horseback for a minimum of three hours.

If you are travelling with a partner or your family, other members of your group can choose from a range of activities (treks or easy horserides). Our guides at the lodge are available every day to help you choose suitable alternatives. Similarly, if you wish to do a different activity during one of the mornings or afternoons, you can sign up for one of our other explorations.
