explora travel chile guides
To be a guide at explora is a unique life experience and great challenge, where extra effort goes hand in hand with the level of satisfaction received. Applicants must be able to manage a variety of tasks, but most importantly be able to do so with subtlety, intelligence and friendliness. Our guides must know how to lead a group, make difficult decisions, work as a team and possess a great love of the outdoors. Our guides are in charge of trekking, mountaineering, bicycling and horseback riding excursions. Many of these excursions require strong physical effort, and guides sometimes must carry 18 or 20 kilos, climb to heights of more than 5,000 meters, and lead excursions in extreme weather conditions. Guides must be in good physical shape, have an excellent command of English, an intrinsic passion for adventure, a continual preoccupation for excellence in service and a strong desire for exploring the world that surrounds us. The process of selection begins with an interview where the applicant will be evaluated in his or her fluency in languages, interests and experience. Then the applicant will be tested to determine if he or she possesses the required physical strength. Of the large number of applicants only a few will eventually be selected as an explora guide.

Selected applicants must take part in a two-month "guide school," where he or she must learn about the following: geology, mountaineering, horseback riding, glaciology, history, flora, fauna and first aid. Our candidates' abilities and potential are then once again tested carefully. Once the applicant has passed this stage, he or she will begin a fantastic life experience as a guide at explora.
