1. Does explora offer stays for 4 and 8 nights only? Can I visit for 5, 6 or 7 nights?
Our Atacama hotel always has availability for guests seeking a stay of 3 nights or more. In Patagonia between October and April we offer programs of 4 and 8 nights only, however between May and August we offer 5, 6 or 7 nights according to availability. |
2. Can I reserve excursions in advance?
No. Excursions are planned once you are at explora, in a conversation with one of our guides, who will suggest a series of options according to a program designed for the following day. You may choose according to length, physical exertion exercise and your interests. |
3. Which airlines serve Punta Arenas and Calama?
The airlines that serve both cities are LAN and Sky airlines
(www.lan.com/ www.sky.cl). Easter Island is served by LAN airline only. |
4. Is internet access available at explora hotels?
Internet access is available and at no cost in a common area of all our hotels in Patagonia, Atacama and Rapa Nui. |
5. What kind of equipment does explora offer for horseback and bicycle rides?
explora provides everything necessary for horseback and bicycle rides. For horseback riding, we offer Chilean saddles (similar to North American saddles) and English saddles. We also provide gaiters and riding helmets to those who need them. explora has bicycles of various sizes, and also bike helmets. |
6. Is equipment available for excursions?
The only additional equipment we offer for excursions are trekking poles. Boots, clothing, parkas, backpacks, etc., are not offered, so guests are responsible for bringing their own. There is a store at the Atacama and Patagonia hotels that sells basic clothing and other items for those who have forgotten something. |
7. Is it possible to reserve massages ahead of time?
Reservations for massages in both our Patagonia and Atacama hotels must be done with our reception desk upon arrival. For guests who insist in booking a massage before arriving, full payment is required in advance. |
8. What kind of food does explora serve?
Both the ingredients used and meal portions are adequate for the kind of activity that takes place in explora. It provides enough energy to recuperate from a day of exploration, and to prepare for the next. Our meals feature local ingredients such as salmon, lamb, vegetables and quinoa. The style is Mediterranean and Chilean. Special diet menu such as vegetarian or others can be accommodated giving notice in advance |
9. Are there connecting rooms in hotels for families?
No, there are not. We assign rooms that are next to or in front of each other. |
10. How are family rates applied?
Children between 0 and 12 years old can room with their parents in a roll-away bed. Children between 13 and 18 years old are accommodated in a separate room in bunk beds. 2, 3 or 4 children can be in this room. The minimum rate that applies is for 2 kids. If you are traveling with only one child between 13 and 18 years old, he/she will be using this special room with a minimum charge of two family rates.

11. Is there some benefit for guests who book a trip to two or more explora destinations?
Yes, there are benefits for those who book 2 or more explora destinations during the same trip (between Atacama, Patagonia and Easter Island). These benefits are part of our program Passport explora, which offers flexibility to choose arrival and departure dates at one of our properties; special rates (discounts between 5% and 8%); priority on waiting lists; and exclusive blocks from December and March (in Patagonia). Valid until December 31st, 2008. |
12. How do I find explora staff at the airport?
explora has a counter at the Calama and Punta Arenas airports that is identifiable by our logo. Here our staff greets our guests and helps them to our van with their luggage. On Easter Island, our staff waits outside the baggage claim with an explora sign. |
13. Where are the majority of guests from? What is the average age of guests?
Our guests are from all continents and countries. Nevertheless, the majority of our guests are from the U.S., Great Britain, Brazil, Spain and France. The age range is wide, from 2 to 80 years old, however the majority of our guests are between 45 and 65. |

What kind of vehicle does explora use for transfers in Patagonia and Atacama?
explora uses Ford Club Wagons and GM Savanas. Both accommodate up to 10 people. |
